6 Natural Coffee Brands You’ll Love and 1 You Won’t

This post contains affiliate links in which I will earn a few cents in commission if you click on them and make a purchase. There’s no extra cost to you, it just helps me buy this natural coffee that keeps me ‘going’ every day.

We are natural coffee connoisseurs in our house and, like most parents, depend on it maybe a little too much. Dependencies-schemendencies I say, it’s the true black gold and we’ll continue brewing it for years to come.

Of course, we won’t settle for just any coffee put in front of our face. If it’s from a doctor’s office, car service waiting area, McDonald’s, etc., we have zero issue with avoiding the beverage. Besides, those places usually only offer styrofoam cups which I refuse to touch for the environmental aspect as well as the plethora of health problems it’s linked to. Especially when it is used for hot liquids!

But I’ll save my soapbox speech on the damaging effects of styrofoam for another day, because today is all about my favorite brands of natural and/or organic coffee. Plus, there’s one kind of coffee (Hint: it’s not for drinking) you most likely will not love unless you’re into that type of thing. If you are, more power to you, just not something I care a-latte-bout. 🙂

1. WealthPreneur Coffee Co. – It’s organic, shade-grown and Fair Trade. This coffee is a potent medium/dark roast that, unlike many darker roasts, maintains a high level of caffeine by using a thicker blend of organic oils when roasting so the actual bean does not get as burned. Usually, the longer (i.e. darker) the roast, the less caffeine. It smells wonderful to anyone who loves coffee, and the flavor is intense and certainly gets your day started full of energy.

2. Death Wish Coffee – Organic, Fair Trade, and just has a cool name! This is another darker roast coffee with a super high caffeine content. Good for some, bad for others, but either way, drink up and prepare to tackle the day! I bought it for the name alone, and because it’s organic, and would definitely buy it again.

3. Kimera Koffee – It’s not organic, but is sourced from a single estate in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic and is grown under ideal conditions for top notch beans. But quality coffee beans is just the start, what sets Kimera Koffee apart is the added nootropics that not only boost your energy, but improve focus, concentration and athletic performance. It’s a smooth brew with a pleasant aroma and slightly nutty flavor. Here’s their description of the added nootropics….

The Kimera Blend is infused with 725mg of premium grade Nootroopics per serving to help you sustain a healthy mind and body. Alpha GPC: Natural choline compound found in the brain and can be found in soy, meats and fish. Improves memory, enhances mental focus and increases power output. Taurine: An organic acid commonly found in eggs that delays cognitive decline due to aging, fights oxidative stress, reduces fatigue, and helps boost fat metabolization. L-Theanine: Tea extract that balances daily anxiety, improves sleep patterns and helps prevent cholesterol-related damage. DMAE: Choline molecule found in fish that boosts mental performance, increases energy, improves oxygen efficiency and promotes red blood cell function.

4. Via Bom Dia 100% Naturally Flavored Coffee – I typically don’t go for flavored coffees as that usually means added sugar and chemicals, but that’s not the case here. It is organic coffee with natural flavors like real cacao nibs, cinnamon, and even chipotle. No chemical flavors, just the actual spices, and this coffee is the brand that does this. We have only tried the Cinnamon Chocolate Cacao and absolutely love the aroma and flavor. You can actually see the chunks of cinnamon stick mixed with the beans, I love it! They have 6 flavors to savor; Dark Chocolate Cacao, Cinnamon Chocolate Cacao, Chipotle Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, Chocolate Lavender, & Dirty Chai. Choose any or all for a special treat without the need of artificial flavors or sugar.

5. Kicking Horse Coffee – No crazy highly caffeinated brain boosting brew here, just a simple medium roast organic and Fair Trade Coffee. Don’t be fooled by it’s simplicity though, this stuff is smooth, very little acidity, and easy to drink any time of day. This is our current go-to blend and it hasn’t let us down yet.

6. The Good Java Company – The last one is another simplistic blend with a darker roast. Certified organic and Fair Trade, it’s just a “good java” to keep around and brew a cup for yourself and any guests. Being a dark roast, it is a slight earthy, full-bodied brew that just feels right on a rainy day or anything I’m looking for something a little more intense.

And for the one I suspect most of you will not love. The beans are certified organic, but not meant for drinking. The brand is called Purelife Enema Coffee, and if the name doesn’t give it away already, these beans are meant specifically for coffee enemas. Yeah, it’s a thing, and apparently it’s actually quite healthful, but I’m perfectly happy with only putting coffee in one hole called my mouth. At least it’s free of mold, fungus, and pesticides!

Have you ever tried any of these coffees?

Ever hear of or try a coffee enema?

IllumiBowl Toilet Night Light: The Future of Peeing

I was provided an IllumiBowl Toilet Night Light free of charge in exchange for my honest review. I was not compensated in any other way and all thoughts are my own. This post does contain affiliate links in which I will earn a few cents if you make a purchase by clicking on one.

There are some crazy contraptions and ideas displayed on the show Shark Tank, and at first glance, I would’ve placed the IllumiBowl in that category. But, after Matt, the creator kindly sent one for me to try, my mind was blown toilet bowl stayed clean!

IllumiBowl Toilet Night Light

Guys, if you live with females, this tiny light just might prevent future toilet spray related arguments FOREVER! Not that I know anything about those kind of fights…..

The IllumiBowl easily fits on any toilet using a suction cup and adjustable arm.

Then you can set it to one of 9 color options or have it cycle through all of the colors.  Who wouldn’t want to have a disco pee session in the middle of the night?

While the color selection is nice, I prefer to only use the orange or red light so as to not disrupt my sleep. Thanks to my good friend, Shawn Stevenson, author of the book Sleep Smarter, I know all about the negative effects of blue light at night and how it can ruin a wonderful sleep!

Which is why this isn’t just to keep guys from “shooting blindly” at night. Anyone will benefit from having a night light that doesn’t emit blue light if so chosen, and I I’m sure ladies will enjoy having a well-lit toilet to go to at night. Let’s not forget about our little ones too, whether potty training or just in need of a bathroom night light, the IllumiBowl benefits the entire family and guests.

If you could use a practical and fun way to light up your nighttime bathroom trips, look no further than the IllumiBowl. For just $19.99, you can save yourself from tinkle sprinkle arguments (sorry, wife) and even give kids the confidence to make trips to the restroom alone at night.

The key features of this hand light are:

  • Fits on any toilet
  • Automatically turns on and off via motion sensors
  • 9 single color modes or the option to cycle all colors
  • Easy to clean with just a damp cloth
  • Peeing is fun for everyone!

Pick one or more up for yourself and friends on Amazon or find it at your local Bed, Bath, and Beyond. To keep up to date on special offers and parenting/bathroom related tips, follow IllumiBowl on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

And now, I’ll leave you with their funny, but informative video on YouTube. Enjoy!

Going Reviews: The Onya Baby Outback Carrier

Onya Baby Baby Carrier, babywearing, parenting, babies, fitness

As a new parent, I had no babywearing experience or knowledge of types of carriers before Avery was born. Without researching, we picked up an original Baby Bjorn carrier and felt that’s all we needed.

Several weeks and two very tired shoulders later, Going Mom and I felt there had to be something better. Turns out, there is!! A simple Google search will inundate you with baby carrying brands and choices like slings, wraps, soft-structured carriers, etc. I was confused!

I can’t believe how naïve I was about babywearing at first, and now I’m a huge advocate! Without getting into too much detail, babywearing provides a sense of comfort and attachment with your baby and is superior in every developmental aspect over other carrying options like carseats. Read all about the Benefits of Babywearing vs. Carseat Carrying on Onya’s Blog.

Enter Onya Baby; a family-owned business created by a loving, active mother. I scrutinized numerous blogs and websites to find the best baby carrier, and finally found an extensive comparison on The Portable Baby. The Onya immediately stuck out to me.

I’m an active guy and want to do active things with my daughter. With the Onya, I can be active while keeping Avery secure and the both of us comfortable. The material is a water and fade resistant nylon with a separate layer of mesh to allow airflow and keep us both cool in the Texas heat. Good, because I sweat a lot!

The colors offered are gender neutral and even stylish for mom or dad. I’d even wear it as a giant fanny pack…..if I wore fanny packs and it was the 80’s. Even the hidden strap buckle is a nice feature.

Now that Spring is here, I want to show Avery all the world has to offer in nature, and not be stuck in the house. After all, I’m not just a stay-at-home dad, I am a Going Dad!

I wrote Diana at Onya Baby, worried that my blog was too small, to see if she would be willing to send the Outback for me to review. Not only did she write me back, but we spoke on the phone and I could tell from her voice how kind and caring she is! Diana graciously agreed to send us an Outback carrier to review and even included a Baby Booster since Avery is just under 15 pounds.

I couldn’t shut up about how excited I was to receive the Onya Outback, and I know Kelley was tired of hearing it after about the 10th time every day! Check out Onya’s blog for great info on babywearing and research on why it’s so much better for parents and babies.

Once it arrived, I eagerly took Avery on our first walk and immediately noticed how much better it felt than the Bjorn. No achy shoulders for me and no dangerously dangling leg position for Avery; win-win! Avery was asleep just minutes into the walk, so I’ll speak for her and say she’s pretty happy as well.

Yes, I'm happy!
Yes, I’m happy!

A feature that sets the Onya Baby carrier apart from all the rest is the integrated chair harness you can use anywhere there’s a chair. This feature was Diana’s main motivation in creating the Onya as it helped simplify her life by not having to haul around another baby item when on the go with her baby.

Avery is not able to sit up on her own yet, but I know this will be a useful feature when we are out and about later on. No booster seat or high chair? No problem; we’ll have our Onya! Here’s a helpful video Onya provided to show how to properly use their seat harness.

We’ve had the Onya for over a month now and have logged almost an hour of walking a day. If not walking, I wear Avery while shopping for groceries.

At first, the straps seemed a little cumbersome to use and can still be tricky, but that’s most carriers. For the security it provides, I don’t mind one bit. I do get a little annoyed with the excess length of the straps blowing in the wind as we walk, but that’s my fault since there are bands to use to roll them up.

Although the air-mesh lining makes things a lot cooler than they would be otherwise, I still sweat as you see in the picture a few paragraphs up. But, this is going to happen with any carrier when it’s hot, and I’d rather it be in the Onya. A great tip is to use freezer packs in their handy storage pocket so you and baby keep cool in the heat.

Other than walking in the neighborhood and store trips, I’ve successfully used our new Fiskars Reel Mower to mow the lawn and went on our first trail hike with the Onya. Both experiences resulted in Avery falling asleep, so it has to be a pretty comfy carrier!

The built in hood is something I didn’t think I’d use very often, but now I use it all of the time. It’s great for when Avery needs to take an emergency nap or to block her head from the sun, rain, or even high winds. Yeah, look at my hair in this picture; I wish I had a built in hood!

20140330_172926

I like knowing the Onya is made to support kids up to 45 pounds which is higher than most! It is a little bulkier than other carriers, but that’s because it doubles as a child seat and has useful storage compartments! I know we’ll have the Onya Baby Outback for quite a while, and can’t wait to use it in the back carry position once Avery is older.

Overall, I wish I would’ve researched baby carriers more from the start. I’m sure I would’ve found the Onya as our first choice then. Besides offering a high quality carrier and portable child seat that’s capable of taking around town and on the trail, Onya offers love and care for their product by a family-owned business. This is what sets companies apart from others, and is what I look for when researching new products.
