As a parent, it’s your job to protect your kids from everything that could happen in their life. You want to make sure your kids are safe from harm, illness, and bullying. But, there will come the point where you need to take a small but necessary step back. You can’t go around protecting your kids forever, as much as you’d like to, so you need to teach them to be tough, built this doesn’t mean you need to be tough.

Stop Fussing Them

When your child falls over, your immediate response is to rush over to see if they are okay. Here’s the thing, kids will fall over, but their reaction and coping strategy are based on how you react. Sometimes, falling over and hurting themselves if never as extreme as they make it out to be. While you can still show concern and provide wound care products to prevent infections, try not to be as fussy. This can help them get on with it and will teach them that not every cut and graze is the end of the world.

Teach Them Independence

There are many different ideas for fostering independence in your kids, so it’s up to you how you approach this. Regardless of your approach, it can have superb benefits for toughening your kids up. Encouraging independence means they will become more comfortable with making decisions themselves. They won’t need you to hold their hand, and this will allow them to make mistakes and learn from them, which is perhaps the most important lesson for growing up.

Show Them How Beneficial Struggles Can Be

You never want your kids to struggle in life, and that’s partly why you want to provide support for them for as long as possible. However, if your kids never struggle, they will never get the crucial life experiences that can toughen them up. Of course, you don’t want them to deal with real struggles, but allowing them to realize that life is not all sunshine and rainbows will go a long way to giving them the tools to succeed. Whether it’s their schoolwork, sports clubs, or learning a skill, they need to deal with (and get over) the hard part so they can reap the benefits.

Discourage Complaints

It’s safe to say that no one likes a negative child. No one likes a kid who complains and whines all day, every day. You need to stamp (not literally) this out of your children. Rather than listen to complaints and even bend to every whim, teach them to be grateful for their situation. Sure, they might be going through something tedious, but that is a part of life. Your kids need to learn the benefits of getting on with it so that they can discover how satisfying life is once they get through to the other side.

Tough Guy, Eh?

Encouraging your kids to toughen up shouldn’t mean they transform into emotionless robots. It should mean they manage to overcome strife and hardships by themselves, or at least try to at first. The tougher they become, the more independent and capable they will be.

The Major Health Benefits of Working Out

Physical activity is scientifically proven to be highly beneficial to the human body. However, research shows that less than 50% of adults engage in dedicated exercise. This has led to an increase in health hazards globally. Common illnesses that result from not exercising are heart-related problems and stroke. Working out is fundamental in boosting your health, which is why many people get a home gym installed. Since I took fitness seriously, I have been in good physical condition. Major health benefits I have enjoyed because of workouts include:

Controlling Weight

When I started working out nine years ago, my main goal was to cut weight. I would watch my diet and strictly watch the workout routine. I started with 328 pounds and had an aim of getting below 220 pounds. To reach my target, I had to hit the gym. Consistent workouts helped me burn calories and subsequently lose weight. Currently, I weigh 200 pounds, a figure that makes me feel confident and fit. To maintain this weight and keep healthy, I still exercise frequently.

Reduces Risk of Heart Illnesses

During the time I weighed 328 pounds, I did some research on the risks arising from being overweight. Heart problems could lead to a heart attack which became a big scare. Excess weight also affects blood pressure. To prevent this from happening, I took to exercising. Working out has a lot of benefits to the heart. It leads to increased blood flow which increases the oxygen supply in the body. Working out is beneficial because it helps keep such illnesses at bay.

Helps Improve the Mental Health

Mental health issues are on the increase in today’s world. To counter such illnesses, medical practitioners advocate for people to do exercise. Exercise helps me relax my mind by giving me a break from real-life problems. Research shows that workouts make the body release chemicals to boost a person’s mood, thus relieving stress. This has helped my mental health by reducing the risk of falling into depression.

Strengthens the Bones and Muscles

A strong body contributes to good health. Workouts help in building muscles and strengthening bones. I engage in a lot of muscle-building exercises. Looking at my physique, I can note some improvement in terms of strong muscles. I feel my joints get better thanks to the workouts.

Boosts Immunity

Exercise has a positive impact on the body’s immune system. A strong and healthy body is good for fighting against diseases. With a healthy body, one stands a higher chance of good well-being because the body is able to fend off illnesses. Since I started working out, I have lived a healthy life. I have not visited the hospital due to illness apart from when attending for routine check-ups.

The Body Can Manage Blood Sugar and Insulin Levels

Blood sugar and insulin level problems put a person at risk of illnesses like metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Doing exercises helps to make the insulin work well and lower the blood sugar level, therefore, reducing the risk of getting ill. One can do exercises as a precaution and as an action to manage existing problems.

Improve Quality of Sleep

Good health, as noted by many experts, is a result of many factors, sleep being among them. Working out helps me improve the quality of sleep and thus aiding good health. Anytime I do exercises, I am sure of getting sound sleep.

The importance of exercise to the human body cannot be overstated. While exercising may be punishing sometimes, the results are always rewarding. You do not have to begin with heavy exercises to reap these benefits. Starting slowly and growing gradually is always a sure way towards a happy life.

Get Combat Power Fit With This Pokemon GO Workout

What did we do before the release of Pokemon GO? If it was just sitting around, then most of us are better off with the popular app. Except, maybe, your actual pet….

I haven’t even played the game for a week, and try to keep it minimal. Staring at my phone as I walk around is not my favorite pastime, so luckily its addictive power has not fully overwhelmed me…yet. It has, however, given me an idea for a way to turn it into a workout.

Nothing like getting outdoors with your smartphone and working up a sweat as you hunt Pokemon. There’s a sentence I never thought I’d say. But in an effort to roll with the current trends, I’ve found myself playing the game, and even saving my daughter from a vicious Pidgey attack.

She’s lucky I have a accurate Pokeball throw!

Anyway, as I’m sure many of you already have the game and are familiar with the platform, let’s get right into the workout.

Combat Power Pokémon GO Workout

1. Find a popular Pokemon hangout. Preferably an open area like walking/jogging trails or a park to give you plenty of space. Inside your home will suffice too.

2. Launch the app and walk/jog/run until Pokemon show up. If inside, running probably won’t happen. Take this Pinsir I found wandering inside our home, for example.

3. Catch the Pokemon.

4. Once caught, you’ll see the list of stats about your fresh catch. What you want to look for is the CP (Combat Power) of your Pokemon. Use each number to perform bodyweight exercises.

Pokemon GO Pinsir Stats

Notes:

For this Pinsir, his CP was 88. So I would choose to do 8 reps of one exercise followed immediately by 8 reps of another exercise. As your experience level increases, so will the CP, even into the triple digits. Then you’ll have 3 different exercises to perform for each catch.

If you get a number with a 0 in it, like 10, just do one exercise of 10 reps. Or, if it’s a triple digit like 220, then do 2 reps of an exercise, then 20 of another.

Here’s a useful list of bodyweight exercises to use. Choose ones you’re able to do with good form, and with opposing muscle groups for multiple sets. For example, if your Pokemon has a CP of 345, you’d perform 3 push ups, 4 sit ups, and 5 squats.

Walking, jogging, running, or sprinting until you find another Pokemon depends on your fitness level as well as your chosen location. Please please PLEASE, do not sprint into the street!

Pokemon GO is already great for getting sedentary folks moving more, but for those that want more, this is a simple workout you can do anywhere. All the while, you’ll add to your Pokedex. Like killing catching two birds Pidgey’s, one stone.

To some, this might sound easy at first, but find an area swarming with Pokemon and you’ll feel after a while, I promise.
