5 Ways Our Naturepedic Mattress Provides More Than A Good Sleep

We’ve been sleeping on our Naturepedic organic mattress for about 3 weeks and, simply put, we love it! Not only have we been sleeping better, but it’s become a wonderful gathering place for our small family of three.

My wife and I both agree we made the right choice with our Naturepedic EOS Series mattress, but I know it’s best to give it some time before coming to a solid conclusion. Guess we’ll just have to “sleep on it”. C’mon, you knew it was going to happen at some point. #CornyDadPuns

I can, however, confidently say our comfort is much improved since ditching our “high tech”, “NASA inspired” Temper…..umm, memory foam mattress. Going Mom and I used to wake up way too hot, sometimes covered in sweat, from the lack of circulation in our old mattress. Now, we keep plenty warm, but it’s just right, like baby bear’s porridge. No sweating or tossing from side to side, just a chemical-free organic mattress beckoning us to sleep soundly on it each and every night.

Now, back to the ways our Naturepedic mattress provides more than just a good sleep. In just the 3 weeks we welcomed them into our home, our new mattress has been the main location for….

1. Tickle high fives. Going Mom and Avery have been playing a game (I guess you can call it that) where my wife asks for a high five from Avery, and as she raises her arm to deliver a five, Going Mom delivers a tickle attack instead. This game can happen anywhere at anytime, but Avery always asks demands to “Go to Mommy and Daddy’s bed for tickle five.”

2. Jump-Reading. Jumping on the bed is a given, but what about jumping, doing a butt buster, and going right into a book or two? How’s that for combining exercise and education? Exercation?

3. Nighttime chats. Having a kid can seriously cut into quality time with your significant other. We only have one, but I assume it’s increasingly difficult with multiple little ones demanding your constant attention. Now, we set aside a specific day where we have “us” time after getting our girl to bed. We get comfy on the mattress and play a game of The Walking Dead Yahtzee (I got it for her birthday) or simply talk without having a jealous (but oh so sweet) toddler getting mad for not looking at her. It never seems long enough, but every minute spent together helps grow and keep a strong bond, and I love having this time with my wife.

We’re just like this, only inside a home in our pajamas with a zombie shaker cup for the dice in our game of The Walking Dead Yahtzee. I’m winning, by the way.

4. Pretending to sleep. Sure, the sleep is awesome, but pretending to sleep is pure bliss! Or Avery seems to think so. Just another fun game where she “sleeps” on Mommy and Daddy’s bed, complete with loud snores, and sometimes asks us to join. She even has the same head-at-the-end position as in her own crib!

It never lasts long though, she’s up and jumping again within seconds.

5. Home base. No home is complete without a home base, and our Naturepedic mattress as become just that. It’s where we seem to gravitate to when we’re all together. As soon as Mommy comes home from work, her and Avery usually end up playing together on our bed. If I’m in another room, I can hear the loud giggles emanating from our bedroom. Nothing warms this dad’s heart like the laughter of his wife and giggles of his sweet daughter. Sounds mushy, but it’s the truth! It’s also perfect for escaping the vacuum.

As you can see, we’ve been spending a lot of time on our new bed, and it’s been a very welcome new addition to our family. No matter how hard we try, we are all exposed to chemicals that are normally foreign to our body, but now we can escape exposure on our organic Naturepedic mattress.

Some mattresses, no matter how expensive and full of high tech materials, overwhelm our body with artificial chemicals we were never meant to be around. Do you want to sleep on a pile of chemicals? What about your precious little ones who spend a good chunk of the day playing or sleeping (or should be) on their mattress? I never thought much of it before, but what we sleep on truly does impact our entire life. Here’s why Naturepedic stands out among the rest and earns a spot in everyone’s home.

We made our choice, and feel better in doing so. To make my point, I’ll end this post with a quick discussion my wife and I had one lazy day on the weekend. Avery was blessing us by sleeping in, which meant we slept in, but even after waking, we still didn’t move.

Me: Why is it soooo hard to get up?

Wife: Because it feels sooooo good to sleep.

Thanks to Naturepedic, I couldn’t argue there!

Disclaimer: I received a heavy discount from Naturepedic to purchase the EOS Series king mattress in exchange for my honest, unbiased review. All opinions are strictly my own.

Welcoming Naturepedic Into Our Home

We got a new Naturepedic organic mattress and our excitement can hardly be contained! After having to deal with getting uncomfortably hot in our old mattress for years, the time has finally arrived to improve an all too often overlooked aspect of health; sleep.

Not only was our old mattress uncomfortable, but it, like most mattresses, was plagued by flame retardants and a host of chemicals like phthalates that easily spread throughout the house. Basically, lots of nasty stuff that can pose harm to us and our little ones. Even during pregnancy, studies have shown mothers exposed to phthalates have been linked to their children having an increased risk of asthma.

Having grown up with asthma as a kid (luckily I don’t have it now), I know firsthand that it sucks, literally. It’s true, having asthma usually involves sucking wind when you exert yourself too much and have an attack or close to it. It’s not fun and I don’t wish it on anyone. Lets just say my childhood days of playing soccer had me clinging to an inhaler like Frodo Baggins with the One Ring.

Point is, there are things I never even considered to pose a threat to our health, but now know otherwise. One very big thing is the mattress we sleep on. After doing our research, Going Mom and I knew it was time to upgrade our sleep and health by getting a new mattress.

Our last mattress was a queen, but my wife, always thinking ahead, said we need a king for when someone *cough* Avery *cough cough* starts venturing into Mommy and Daddy’s room to join us. I guess the kitchen floor (note the picture above) doesn’t work so well.

Please let me sleep with you, Mommy and Daddy.

Thankfully, the super generous people at Naturepedic provided us the value of their queen mattress so all we had to do was make up the difference to buy a king! I can picture us now…

Except we won’t have the ocean as a backdrop and Avery will surely be in between or jumping us. You know, standard toddler. Speaking of, they do have crib and kid mattresses too.

Happy doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel about our new mattress. I think flabbergasted or elated would serve as a better word. Avery was excited the day the mattress arrived in, get this, several boxes.

That’s right, a king mattress in several boxes. We haven’t opened them since we’re waiting to set it up this weekend, but there are warnings to be careful when opening. I can just picture a giant snake-in-a-can effect happening from trying to be too quick to open! SURPRISE!!! Actually, they provide detailed assembly instructions and have a YouTube video.. It seems easy peasy to me, what do you think?

I guess that means no snake-in-a-can surprise. But seriously, watching that video gets me even more pumped up to set it up this weekend!

Anyway, I’ll be working hard (aka sleeping on this awesome mattress) to write a review post. Over the coming months, look for update posts and please feel free to ask any questions you have anytime. If I can’t answer them, Naturepedic’s website is packed full of useful info.

A big thanks to Naturepedic for allowing us the opportunity to sleep on their high quality organic mattress. I can’t wait to share with everyone how great it feels and why being free of flame retardants and other chemicals is so important.

To see why we’re so excited to welcome Naturepedic in our home, be sure to keep up to date by following them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, and their blog.

When Did Our Toddler Get So Smart?

We had just come to terms that our baby is toddler, but now she’s transforming into a smart/tricky toddler of sorts. Smart, because she’ll call out all letters of the alphabet, numerous colors, stack blocks (instead of just destroy) and speak in complete sentences sometimes.

In Mary Katherine from SNL style – Superstar Smart!

Tricky, because, well, she’s figuring out how to delay things at night when it’s bedtime, and how to use her cuteness to get her way.

Smiling on kitchen floor
Stop what you’re doing and just play with me!

But make no mistake, Going Mom and I are not complaining. We couldn’t be me happy to see how our little girl is growing physically and intellectually. But also make no mistake, it drives us insane at times!

Mainly, the nighttime toddler delay tactics. She has this thing where she likes to do a “jump” into her pajamas after bathtime, so Mommy will let her jump once, but then she says “Again”, and she goes again. But two is not enough, and she’ll continue going until one of us makes her stop. Some nights, she’ll accept it, other nights, you’d think she’s auditioning for an opera.

Then, we normally only read one book, but now she turns on the bottom lip to try and delay the inevitable; sleep! Well, at least going into her crib. We had a nice few weeks of an easy transition from putting her in the crib and she’d go to sleep soon after, or at least not throw a fit. But now, WOW, this girl makes her demon days look like a cute and cuddly kitten!

When her screams aren’t radiating throughout the house, she’ll pace around her crib and talk to herself. We consider this much better than the alternative, and even nice to see how her brain has developed. Just listen to her talk amongst herself to decide if she wants the blue plate or pink plate tonight.

Saying “Blue plate tonight” has become the majority of our daily conversations. I ask her if she wants water, it’s “Blue plate tonight”.

Me: Did you go poop?

Avery: Blue plate tonight.

Me: Do you want to go for a walk to see the moon tonight?

Avery: Blue plate tonight.

Me: *Silence*

Avery: Blue plate tonight, blue plate tonight, bluuuuueee plate toniiiiiight!

You get the drift.

Don’t get me wrong, she says more than Blue plate tonight, but those three words are repeated all day long. Other popular phrases are:

  • Crazy football
  • See you tomorrow, goat cheese. (Now she says “See you tomorrow, blue plate”)
  • More goat cheese. Please, goat cheese.
  • The moon’s a coming.
  • Biceps and triceps.
  • Clean the boo-boo on the butt.
  • The light’s on!
  • I’m a crazy Avery.

I could go on with a few more, but these are the ones that stand out right now. Needless to say, this girl truly is crazy, and we’re loving how much fun (usually) she is.

With the increased fun/craziness, means decreased blog posts, or at least shorter in length. Naps are becoming scarce and I’m keeping busy with other things. But don’t worry, I’ll be around to post updates when possible and even share product reviews, workout ideas, and maybe even recipes.

Hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season so far with more good times ahead! Oh, and here, Avery wanted to say bye-bye with Lamby.
